a collection of summer fun

this summer didn’t look a whole lot different from the outside but it felt a whole lot different on the inside. the feeling was a little more freedom, a little more fun and lot more satisfaction.
the difference was shifting the prioritization of the things that are fundamentally important to us yet never seemingly urgent. easy to skip but deeply felt when they’re missed.

MTWI tourney
we started this summer off finally bringing to life the idea of hosting a minute to win it tournament. Dustin and I have been talking about this for a few years + it felt so good to put some energy towards it this memorial weekend. just like the tv show, we had a handful of games made from random household items. we invited all the neighbors and made a big deal out of the competition, complete with an awards ceremony and G.O.A.T [greatest of all time] trophy. it seemed to be a hit so we plan to do it again next year.
dock daze
dock daze are what we live for in the summer and they’re the seed of us moving to this tiny lake house. we’ve embraced that by working a little less and spending that time on the water. we also labeled our summer as our no fly zone where we stay around the lake as much as possible…saving trips for other times of the year.
random whimsical sitting area
I’ve always adored an intimate sitting area randomly nestled in a grassy-woodsy area. so instead of just wanting it all the time I took the time to make one in our yard. action inspired by the recent landscape update we did at Snelly’s place. this seating brings all the whimsical vibes I could have imagined + you already know it’s functional for how we hang. when everything else is shaded, the evening sun highlights this little nook so good. we love to have a little evening drink here while Forrest chills on our feet in the grass - but more often he loves sitting on his golf cart close by.
a nod to 11 years +
we celebrated 11 years of choosing each other with a little day trip to a town we’ve never been to. we had thought we’d go on a full weekend getaway but that just felt forced more than flowing with a day trip. we forgot how much joy and adventure we can find a few hours from home. I want more of that for us.
busy schedules + future plans
I got some QT with a few friends which is always a win in these days of over booked schedules and I planted seeds for our future of getting goats.
BOTD did not disappoint
I excitedly wait for our annual Brock On The Dock [BOTD] party every summer. it is one of my favorite things to see all of our neighbor friends coming together in one big party on the lake. and it warms my heart to have our neighbor friends travel up from cincinnati to make it happen. this year marks the 6th annual and it was everything we’ve been waiting for.
quieting the squeaky wheels
the shift in perspective will continue to be a practice for us because it’s so easy to take care of the squeaky wheels…work + house projects are always much louder. but when we take action on the things that are good for our soul, not just good for productivity, it seems to quiet the squeaky wheels.
this summer has been another good reminder of the few simple steps we need to build a beautiful life…experiencing the present moment, making intentional decisions, taking effective action + creating respectful rhythms for ourselves.
