myofascial release
it's everything you didn't know you needed
Service Description
Forget bones and muscles, fascia [fa-sha] is truly what gives our bodies their structure and ability to move. Imagine a basic dish sponge but expanded to be more spacious and net like - that's essentially what fascia looks like inside our bodies, running from the tip of our toes to the top of our head. All of our muscles, nerves, bones, lymphatic system, blood vessels and arteries are suspended by fascia...truly every cell in our body is impacted by fascia. When we have injuries, scars or just a lot of stress on our bodies it turns into restrictions in our fascial system. And if we don't smooth out these fascial restrictions we can start experiencing increasing pain and discomfort in other, seemingly unrelated areas. Myofascial release, fascia of the muscles, is the gentle yet mega impactful method to release areas of tension so that our bodies can find a comfortable neutral again. Myofascial release sessions are similar setup to getting a massagewith the major difference being that the pressure is sustain in a focused area for 3-5 minutes and no oils or lotions are used. The holding of specific hand positions results in a super deep stretch of the fascial network that can sometimes be felt throughout the entire body. It's truly amazing. For the specific sessions I do, I'll have you get undressed as much as you feel comfortable with - typically down to your underwear/sports bra/tank top. There will be a few minutes where I'll look at your body alignment in standing and you can share what areas of pain or discomfort you are dealing with. You'll then lay on a massage table, cover up with a blanket and focus on relaxing. I'll put gentle yet sustained pressure on certain areas of your body based on what we discussed. We will see how your body responds to the release and that will let me know where to work next on your body. After the session it's common to feel really relaxed, loose, lighter and easier to move. The fascia release will typically last a while [weeks? months?] unless there is a return to habitual movement patterns of the body that caused the restriction in the first place.
