barn art of luscious lips for dramatic-function vibes

some where around 2016, while scrolling pinterest, I saw this...

ree

unlike most things on my pinterest account, I actually made them. there was no pattern to follow + that's what made it intriguing for me. I printed the lip picture on my basic printer then took that to an office supply store. they did an architects print of the lips + it was a great size to use as a template.

I gathered up some lumber, started cutting, sanding and labeling all the pieces. I did a distressed black + red paint job and viola I had some really interesting art for our home. thank you to the creative brain that first put this idea out there - it's so fun.

the lips hung in our bathroom at our cincy house and I just adored them. so when it was time to move I tediously removed them from the command strips along with soo much peeled drywall. I didn't know where, but I knew I'd use them again one day.

that day had come. now that the barn was built I have been formulating what kind of vibe I would want for our space + I knew the lips would a big part of that. with help from Bre's design vibes I've landed on 'dramatic function' for now. or maybe 'dramatic fun.' because it is our space for playing after all.

ree

now that the lips had a home I unboxed them + started assembling. I used a scrap piece of plywood + left over paint from the ladder update.

this is where my lack of planning is helpful...I didn't realize it would be such a chore to hang. I'm so grateful Bob understands how much these little details matter to me because he was more than willing to help me hang them up.

we had a few attempts + ultimately found a use for our scaffolding - that we bought for painting the kitchen but never used.

these lips are exactly what the barn needed + such a statement for all the feels of 'dramatic function'. now I can't help but to see a gallery wall of barn art surrounding these lips. we will see what the future brings.

oh + I found an extra set I forgot I had made at the time. all cut + sanded + ready for a fresh, fun coat of paint...I wonder what I'll do with them??
