a few things to love about mobility moves

as a movement designer a big part of the work I do with clients is finding ways to seamlessly integrate new ways of moving into their daily routines. its one thing to have people feel great by doing specific movements in a session. it’s a whole other thing to have them make this change on a daily basis.

not because it’s physically hard but because it’s mentally hard to do.

people I work with can have decades of practice of moving their bodies in a certain pattern so the time + mental effort of changing that pattern takes some real focus. yes specific exercises help but it’s tenfold when we get really specific on where the ‘pieces’ of these exercises show up in their daily routines.

my goal, for each session, is to have 2-3 subtle yet powerful shifts in their movement patterns that collectively lead to significant improvements in how they feel and function in everyday life.

I call these mobility moves + here’s a few things I’m loving about them:

  1. obvi, number one is how aesthetically pleasing they are…I mean those colors + that subtle leopard print has me like 🤤

  2. I can put a picture or video of THEM doing the moves to super charge the meaning + connection for them

  3. I can keep adding to this over many sessions for a one stop place of all the important things specifically for each person

  4. they can access as often as they want, long after our sessions are complete…or they can download to their phone for super quick reminders

  5. they can share with friends-family if they know other people are having the same situation as them…sharing is caring.

If there's one thing I'm learning, it's this: our movements [and so our aches + pains] are more about retraining our brains than they are about doing more reps or spending more time in the gym. and that's what I want to share with others, in the cutest, most practical way possible.
